Business Development Analyst

Repsol YPF, one of Spain’s largest companies, is involved in all aspects of the energy business and is aggressively expanding its exploration and production division. Our E&P activities are focused in Latin America, North Africa and Middle East. 

Mission:  

Identification, evaluation, analysis and recommendation of oil and gas investment opportunities to contribute to the company's growth objectives. 

Functions:

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, results-oriented person that has at least 10 years of international experience in the oil industry with a strong background in Geosciences and/or Petroleum Engineering jobs with International Oil Companies. A great deal of exposure working in Exploration and/or Integrated Business Development teams is a requirement. 

She or he will be conversant with the evaluation of Business opportunities from Technical Assessment, to Economic and Commercial Evaluation of projects.  

Knowledge of Petroleum Contracts (typically PSC/PSA; T&R; etc.) with demonstrable hands-on experience in negotiating contracts with government bodies and or third parties will be positive differentiator.

The successful candidate will show excellent communication and negotiation skills capable of working independently, while being an excellent team player. 

The position is based in Madrid, but frequent travelling – often to less developed countries is required. 

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor industry activity, identify and bring opportunities to attention of Business Development Top Management. 
  • Coordinate and work within a multi-disciplinary department team to evaluate opportunities.
  • Coordinate / lead opportunity evaluation, including full project evaluation expertise integrating subsurface, engineering, economic and commercial data and provide sound commercial recommendations to management.
  • Negotiate commercial contracts such as AMI, Joint Bidding Agreement, Farm-in Agreement, Petroleum Agreements (PSC, Tax/Royalty etc) with third parties and host governments.
  • Present to management, partners, and host government officials opportunities / company credentials     

Qualifications / Experience

  • Geoscience / Petroleum Engineering degree 
  • A technical background with over 10 years experience in the upstream industry 
  • Strong International experience, and conversant in multiple languages. Fluent English spoken and written; knowledge of other languages is a definite plus.
  • Strong communication and negotiating skills plus a good knowledge of commercial contracts 
  • Capable of assessing technical and commercial risks and upsides
  • Capable of working within a multidiscipline team.
