Technological R+D+i (research, development and innovation) is one of the fundamental factors in reaching high levels of productivity in developed economies that cannot resort to using resources, such as the low cost of labour, in order to compete.
Repsol YPF understands that in order to be competitive in a global market, its investment in technology should be approaching that of the companies considered to be points of reference in the sector and should grow according to the rhythm of growth of the company itself. Wherever R+D+i is promoted, additional added value relating to its social impact is also generated, for example, through the transfer of knowledge with Universities and Public Centres.
Between 10 and 15% of Repsol YPF's R+D budget is invested in the public system through the contracting of activities that form an integral part of the company's own projects. The social impact is demonstrated through the company's relations with the world of education, in activities such as taking on university students and graduates for work experience in its Technology Centres, giving courses and seminars and receiving visits by groups from different schools and universities.
Technology also serves to project the image of Repsol YPF as a company with technological capacity. For that reason, the new Centre, inaugurated in 2002, and its activities have formed part of Repsol YPF's advertising campaigns on television and in the press, it is frequently visited by personalities and figures of authority and it is used to hold events and important technical forums with the Company's partners and clients.
