At Repsol YPF, technology plays the role of creating value and knowledge for the company by means of R+D (Research + Development) and technical support specialised in the fields of its production processes and products.

Its main asset is the knowledge and technological capacity of the over 400 technicians and researchers who are responsible for short, medium and long-term technological development, the continuous improvement in efficiency and the technical and environmental quality of our processes and products.

Technicians and researchers

These activities are programmed in close collaboration with the company's operating units and the planning also envisages the possibility of contracting R+D at Universities and external centres, as well the development of projects in collaboration with other companies, always with the aim of achieving the highest levels of quality and efficiency.

These activities are directed according to the principles of process management and the EFQM model is applied as a tool for continuous improvement. A computerized system for technical and financial project management is also used.

The centres in Spain and Argentina have the environmental ISO 14001 certification and operate according to an integrated safety and environmental system and the laboratories, when required, have the ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 quality certification.

The work carried out in the field of technology is present throughout the company's value chain, which begins with the extraction of crude oil and gas from the wells, followed by the different transformation processes in our production centres to obtain products, such as liquid and gaseous fuels, lubricants and plastics, which reach the end consumer.

For the near future, different types of projects are being developed: technological support for the short-term improvement of already existing processes and products, research and development of new processes and products, when the technology developed in-house provides competitive advantages and opens markets, and surveillance of emergent technologies that could have a longer-term impact on our business.
